
Prevention![]() The best way of defending the reputation of our PDA members
is by helping them to prevent incidents occurring. 'Prevention is always better than cure'. Inevitably, situations will emerge in the workplace where mistakes and mis-judgements can occur, and members may also become victims of the unacceptable behaviour of others. In these situations it is always helpful to be able to access information that will help you decide the correct course of action. Learning the techniques of preventionIt is important for you to think and act in a way that prevents mistakes. Such an approach not only improves patient care, but it can also help avoid conflicts such as prosecutions, professional disciplinary and employment disciplinary consequences. Working in a way which anticipates problems requires you to integrate certain techniques and knowledge into your working routines. Some pharmacists have the knowledge and experience to do this already, whilst others have yet to adopt them. There are many ways in which you can apply these techniques and the PDA will help you to do this by providing some of the necessary tools. In particular the PDA will make the following support available: The Advice CentreContaining published research, case studies, articles and questions and answers in the areas of: Additionally, the Advice Centre contains examples of the type of incidents and claims that we have helped pharmacists to deal with. The Advice Centre also allows members to interact. If your question is not answered already by the Q & A section, then you can email your specific question to the PDA and receive a response within one working day. The Question & Answer will then appear on the updated Q & A site for the benefit of other PDA members. EducationThe PDA will lead and support initiatives designed to improve the knowledge and skills of pharmacists, particularly in managing risk and safe practice.
