The Pharmacy Show: 16 – 17 October 2022

The Pharmacy Show returns this year for two days on 16 to 17 October 2022 at the NEC, Birmingham. The show is a major gathering of pharmacy professionals and provides an opportunity to network with others in the sector and learn more about the profession. The PDA is running two sessions at the Pharmacy Show this year titled ‘LGBT+ inclusion in Pharmacy’ and ‘Medicines to Ukraine’.

Sun 16th - Mon 17th October 2022

The PDA will be involved in delivering two sessions at the Pharmacy Show this year titled ‘LGBT+ inclusion in Pharmacy’ and ‘Medicines to Ukraine’.

LGBT+ inclusion in Pharmacy

Taking place in the Business Theatre on Sunday 16 October 2022 from 4.25 pm to 4.55 pm

The PDA LGBT+ Network provides a structure through which members can work together to proactively address and campaign around sexual orientation and transgender discrimination and its causes and consequences.

Scott and Ken will review the network’s achievements since its launch in April 2020; in particular, the campaign around more inclusion of LGBT+ education in the MPharm programme, and the development of pronoun badges.

Scott and Ken will also cover how members were involved in responding to the government’s consultation on conversion therapy and will show how online networking opportunities and a presence at Manchester Pride have led to the growth of the network.

Confirmed speakers for this session

  • Scott Rutherford, President of the PDA LGBT+ Network and a trainee pharmacist
  • Soh Xi Ken, Honorary Secretary of the PDA LGBT+ Network and a trainee pharmacist

Medicines to Ukraine

Taking place in the Business Theatre on Monday 17 October from 11.55 am to 12.25 pm

EPhEU is the umbrella union for many pharmacist unions across the continent of Europe. The PDA holds a senior position within that organisation, and Mark Koziol, PDA Chairman is currently the Secretary General of EPhEU. The PDA has been working with various continental pharmacist union partners and is responding to the calls from Ukrainian hospitals for help and specialist medicines, by launching a Medicines to Ukraine campaign.

Pharmacists in Europe are using their expertise around medicines to organise the sourcing, logistics, and the safe delivery of specialist medicines to where it is most needed. Mark Koziol has been the architect of this Europe-wide initiative and in this session explains the efforts required and barriers overcome alongside his personal experience of accompanying the first truckload of supplies, worth £200K, into Ukraine where he saw first-hand patients suffering the consequences of the conflict.

Confirmed speaker for this session

  • Mark Koziol, PDA Chairman
