The Pharmacy Show: 17 – 18 October 2021

The Pharmacy Show takes place over two days at the NEC in Birmingham and is a major gathering for pharmacy professionals. The show is made up of education and networking opportunities. The PDA is running two sessions at the Pharmacy Show this year; 'Women in Pharmacy' and 'Delivering race equality in Pharmacy'.

Sun 17th - Mon 18th October 2021

We know, it’s been a difficult period, with greater pressure than ever before and it’s been tough not having access to the kind of events that help you get better at what you do.

But thankfully that’s changing. The Pharmacy Show is back this year! Nowhere else can pharmacies in the UK find inspiration and insight to tackle the biggest challenges whilst finding new ideas to help them survive and thrive.

What to expect

The PDA will be delivering two sessions at the Pharmacy Show this year:

Delivering race equality in Pharmacy

Business Theatre, Sunday 17 October, 1.25 pm – 1.55 pm

After the murder of George Floyd was caught on film and the subsequent rise of the Black Lives Matter campaign, most of the world has an enhanced awareness of racial inequality. Whether you call it ‘institutional racism’ or ‘unconscious bias’ racial inequality exists and together those in the pharmacy profession can work to overcome and end this social injustice.

In April 2020, the PDA built on its long history of defending individual victims of racism with the launch of the BAME Pharmacists’ Network. This network aims to proactively tackle the issue and invites pharmacists to hear a range of perspectives on what can be done and how things can be improved.

Confirmed speakers:

  • Chair – Bharat Nathwani, Policy Officer at the PDA
  • Thorrun Govind, Chair of the English Pharmacy Board
  • Additional speakers to be confirmed

Women in Pharmacy

Business Theatre, Monday 18 October, 1.25 pm – 1.55 pm

In 1905 the National Association of Women Pharmacists (NAWP) was formed from the small minority of pharmacists who were women. Today, most in the profession are female, but the need for NAWP continues. Having become a PDA Network in 2020, NAWP membership is now at record levels and although barriers to the profession are being overcome there is still more work to do. This panel event will discuss the next steps in ensuring the progress towards full and equal opportunities for women in pharmacy.

Confirmed speakers:

  • Chair – Claire Ward, Director of Public Affairs, PDA
  • Shikha Rishi, Independent Prescribing Pharmacist
  • Yogita Dawda, Clinical Lead for Mental Health Pharmacy, CNWL
  • Additional speakers to be confirmed
