We have been contacted by a growing number of members recently who are seeking advice about a major restructuring exercise that has recently been announced at Alliance Boots. Details are sketchy at present but it appears that a significant number of jobs are at risk throughout the company.
The timing of this major change fits in with previous announcements by the company which have occurred during March in previous years. These have included the termination of the final salary pension, reduction in sick pay benefits and the cuts to premium pay announced last year.
We have some concerns about how company managers are briefing those affected and the processes being followed; in particular the lack of “at risk” letters and a failure to provide documentation. It is important for those whose jobs may be at risk to take independent legal advice at the earliest stage to ensure their statutory rights are protected and they are not disadvantaged by this restructure.
We are not aware of any consultations that may have taken place with Unions or Staff Associations about this major change. Affected members are encouraged to contact the PDA Union at the earliest opportunity to seek independent expert advice on their position.
