PDA Union South East England Regional Committee

Meet the PDA Union members who serve on the South East Regional Committee:

Andrew Jukes (Predominantly Hospital Pharmacy, Brighton/South East)

My main area of practice has been in both NHS and Private Hospital Pharmacy. I also have experience in community and prison pharmacy. My main area of interest in pharmacy is risk reduction for patients and staff, via the creation of optimal working environments. I also have an interest in, and believe that team participation, effective communication, training and development underpin the safer working agenda.

I have been involved in the development of the PDA ‘Safer Pharmacy Charter’ for both the community and hospital sectors. The principles set out in each are the foundation of operating a safe pharmacy that supports our members and patients in those areas of practice. Overall, I strive to develop networks so that colleagues can undertake their work safely and efficiently.

BAYO ADEGBITE (LOCUM COMMUNITY PHARMACIST, SOUTH EAST)

Hi, fellow PDA Union members! My name is Bayo Adegbite and I am a Locum Community Pharmacist in South East England. I have many years of experience across both multiple and independent community pharmacies and I have joined the Regional Committee to improve the working lives of PDA Union locums in particular, and increase recruitment of new PDA Union members.

Fasi Payman (Hospital Pharmacist, London)

I initially completed my pre-registration training in community pharmacy before moving to an NHS hospital upon qualification, where I undertook my post-graduate clinical diploma. I have held various roles in the hospital sector, from working as a Specialist Pharmacist in Haematology, Oncology, & Aseptic Services, to my current role as a Senior member of the Post-Acute & Planned Medicine team at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London. I have a genuine passion for pharmacy and the profession; I spend most, if not all, of my weekends and days off from my full-time job undertaking locum shifts in the community sector across the South East of England, in order to be aware of the current challenges pharmacists face across all sectors, and to network with members across the region.

I believe my current and front-line experience of issues faced by PDA members across multiple sectors, paired with my passion for driving improvement in our profession, places me in the best position to ensure you are fairly represented and your concerns addressed. The PDA has relentlessly represented their members’ issues & concerns ever since I first joined over six years ago. To be elected as a Regional Committee Member for the largest pharmacists’ membership organisation in the UK, and to lead by example to make a positive difference in our profession, is a privilege.

Gursimranjeet Kaur Khaira (Primary CARE PHARMACIST)

As a Pharmacist who has experience in various fields, community, hospital and primary care, my passion for pharmacy has ever been growing from a young age, and more so in the midst of this Covid-19 global pandemic.

My on-going passion, drive and dedication to the world of pharmacy allows me to gain and utilise learned skills, motivating me further to not only make a difference here but also empower our colleagues within the profession, leading me to represent our region here with PDA Union.

Hala Jawad (Community Pharmacist, Boots Pharmacy Gatwick airport)

I have had a very varied pharmacy career in non-traditional roles but have also worked in both primary care and community pharmacy. I have been a PDA Union member since graduation and although fairly new to Boots, I am confident I can use my wider experience to develop this new role. I am a Regional Representative for Airports and Stations and am the London Divisional Representative as part of the PDA Reps Network in Boots. I am excited to use these experiences as a PDA Union Regional and Divisional representative to support and represent my pharmacist colleagues and help bring about positive change.

Mercylinah Abimbola Musa (Primary Care, Laindon Medical Centre)

I am currently working in a GP surgery as a clinical pharmacist, but started off in community pharmacy and have worked with a number of chains so I have a multitude of experience in many areas and environments, I enjoy pharmacy as it is one of the few careers where you do a little bit of everything, helping patients, managing businesses and being a source of information for the local community.

Siddiqur Rahman (Primary Care, SOUTH EAST)

I am a primary care GP pharmacist rep in the South East region for the PDA Union. I have been a PDA member since pre-reg in 2006 and have worked mainly as a locum pharmacist in community pharmacies for a decade until I made the switch to work in a different sector in general practice since 2016. I am easily accessible across multiple social media platforms including The Pharmacist Cooperative.

I have co-presented a PDA Union online webinar to showcase why pharmacists across all sectors should join a union and why GP/PCN pharmacists should have their own separate indemnity arrangements in addition to the state-backed scheme. I have featured in the PDA BAME #GetVaccinated video to encourage patients to get their Covid-19 vaccination and recently co-wrote what it’s like behind the scenes, as a PDA Union Regional Committee Member.

Being elected as a PDA Union Regional Committee Member, I endeavour to ensure fair representation for our members and that the advancement of our profession meets and exceeds the needs of our entire pharmacy profession and also help to support grassroots pharmacists working tirelessly on the ground daily.

Nav Bhogal (Community Pharmacist, Boots Oxted, Surrey)

I’m a community pharmacist of 20 years and have undertaken a variety of roles within Boots, where I am also part of the PDA Reps Network. I look forward to using the experience attained in my new role as a committee regional representative for the PDA in both providing support and representing the views of pharmacists within my region.

Shurti Patel Aina (Primary Care and academia, North London)

I currently work as a Clinical Pharmacist in a GP surgery in North London. My pharmacy career initially started in community and I have now been in primary care for over two years. My primary care experience includes working as a practice-based pharmacist for a private organisation as well as my current role in a Primary Care Network. This allows me to share my knowledge and expertise with other primary care pharmacists as well as relate to the challenges faced in this sector. I am also working part time as a lecturer in pharmacy practice.

I have always been passionate about providing outstanding healthcare to my patients and supporting fellow colleagues and especially pharmacists in their journeys. I believe this role gives me the opportunity to make a positive difference to fellow pharmacists which is something valuable to me.

Sherifat Muhammad Kamal (Locum Pharmacist, London & South East)

I am a pharmacist with years of experience in a variety of sectors with a passion for women, faith and public health. I got involved in the PDA Union to support and inspire fellow pharmacists and also to combine the values of the PDA Union with my desire to help develop the pharmacy profession.

Sidney Boahen (Locum Community Pharmacist, Kent & South East)

I currently work full-time as a locum pharmacist across Kent and the South East. I have worked for large multiples, small independent chains, and individual stores. I have a wide range of experience in community pharmacy having been a cluster manager, regional lead and relief dispenser co-ordinator. I have also undertaken a secondment in head office during the rollout of the hub and spoke for one of the multiples.

I have been a member of the PDA Union since I was in university. I joined as I wanted to help empower pharmacists across all sectors and to help move the profession forward.

Amandip Kaur Souni (DERMATOLOGY PRESCRIBING PHARMACIST, PRIVATE SECTOR)

I am an independent prescribing pharmacist with experience in various sectors such as hospital, community, and private. I currently work as a prescribing pharmacist in Central London for a Teledermatology company.

Regardless of the workplace setting, I have always encouraged my patients and colleagues to vocalise their concerns to raise awareness. Through this role at the PDA, I wish to support fellow colleagues in the growing private sector to feel empowered within the profession and bring a positive change in practice.

Prashant Patel (Primary Care Pharmacist, Redbridge, North East London)

I began my career in community pharmacy, working my way up the ranks before transitioning to primary care. I have now been working as a primary care pharmacist for 10 years, in both CCG and GP practice settings. In my CCG roles, I served as a care home pharmacist and a senior pharmaceutical advisor. In my current role as Senior Clinical Lead Pharmacist and Clinical Lead for Type 2 Diabetes in my PCN, I provide practice-based pharmacy support to GP practices.

I am passionate about providing my patients with the highest quality of care, supporting my colleagues, and helping pharmacists thrive in their careers. As a Regional Committee Member, I will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the pharmacy profession, something I value deeply
