In 2010, the PDA revealed its first pharmacy strategy. Subsequently published as the PDA Road Map www.the-pda.org/englishroadmap, www.the-pda.org/scottishroadmap. We argued that pharmacists should create more capacity for GPs by taking on caseloads of patients that GPs had previously diagnosed with long term conditions and delivering Pharmaceutical Care.
At the time, this seemed like a radical idea and few thought that it could happen and yet through a combination of circumstances, look at the revolution that is happening today.
However, not all is well; cuts in the English global sum, cost pressures on Primary Care pharmacists, hospital pharmacists required to discharge patients. Even the Clinical Pharmacists in GP practice scheme, although great in concept, is not without difficulties.
And yet the opportunities for pharmacy could not be greater, but if we are to exploit them, then we must up our game in the areas of planning and leadership.
Consequently, The PDA has developed its next Strategic Road Map, based as before around Pharmaceutical Care and the use of pharmacists’ unique skills as experts in medicines.
We are excited about the prospect of sharing these ideas with you and we invite you to join us at the Pharmacy Show at the NEC on Sunday 8th of October where we will present our New PDA Road Map strategy in the Keynote Theatre at 5.00pm.
Beyond this development, there is a lot going on at this year’s Pharmacy Show, so why not take a look at the full programme to start planning the sessions you may wish to attend.
Additionally, we are sponsoring;
- The Primary Care Theatre, delivering several PDA presentations on key topics
- The Women in Pharmacy Leadership event which we are chairing
- The two-day BPSA Pre-reg conference
We urge you to attend the Pharmacy Show 2017 and we invite you to register for your free place
