• Health Unions Calling for Fair NHS Pay Reform

  In March, NHS health unions wrote to the then Health Secretary (Wes Streeting), calling for negotiations to begin. These talks were long promised and have now begun. They are expected to continue.  

• NHS England launch “Staff Standards”

  The NHS staff standards set national minimum employment requirements to improve staff experience, outlining employer actions and what staff can expect. 

• PDA members unite at national meeting to address the NHS reorganisation impact

  Over 120 members recently attended a national PDA member meeting for pharmacists working within Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) and Commissioning Support Units (CSUs). Members were updated on the PDA’s ongoing work to ensure members’ views are raised and challenge bad practice. They were also given the opportunity to share their concerns amid ongoing organisational restructuring.

  The PDA is issuing pharmacists a timely reminder of the professional obligations when accessing patient records, and the very real regulatory consequences where those obligations are breached. 

• Single Patient Record confirmed in NHS Modernisation Bill announced in the King’s Speech

  The confirmation that a Single Patient Record will be included in the NHS Modernisation Bill is an important policy development. If it is delivered properly, it could improve the safe delivery of clinical care across all settings in England. But that will only happen if pharmacists in all parts of the service are given the access they need to practise safely and effectively, consistent with long-standing PDA policy.

  As NHS restructuring continues to create uncertainty across Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), NHS England and Commissioning Support Units (CSUs), the PDA is supporting pharmacists through redundancy processes, workplace pressures and ongoing organisational change while continuing to press for accountability, patient safety and proper support for members.

Each government shapes their own National Health Service and broader health system, and their decisions have a direct impact on the day-to-day practice of pharmacists.

  It has been more than 20 years since Agenda for Change (AfC), the pay structure covering over a million NHS staff, was introduced to simplify NHS pay scales and ensuring equal pay for work of equal value.  

• New ‘Agenda for Change’ mileage rate agreed for those using own vehicles

  The NHS Staff Council, which brings together health unions and NHS employers to oversee pay and conditions for those on ‘Agenda for Change’ contracts, has confirmed new mileage arrangements. 

• PDA secures protected learning time for Crucible members
