Student Organising Assistant, Hannah Baker and PDA Organiser, Jayne Love delivered a workshop to delegates about the PDA Union with the help of PDA Student Committee members, and PDA Student Reps Tanya Sensi, Molly Chambers, and Martina Aikon. The workshop encouraged students to think about the importance of having a voice within the pharmacy sector through the PDA Union.
During the conference, delegates were asked to create their own student campaigns. One group created a #DiversityforDerm campaign that asked for more training for MPharm students to recognise skin conditions in darker skin tones.
Student Organising Assistant, Hannah Baker said, “It was fantastic to see the hard work of pharmacy students celebrated at the awards night and to see delegates having fun at the tropical shirt themed curry night which the PDA sponsors at the BPSA conference every year.”
PDA Director of Membership and Communities, Paul Day delivered a keynote speech to delegates that covered the beginning of the PDA and why the organisation was established. Paul highlighted all of the opportunities and support available to members throughout their training and career, and the difference the PDA makes to the working lives of pharmacists in the UK. During the keynote speech, Paul also explained why the PDA is affiliated with different organisations as more can be achieved by working together and gave an overview of the PDA’s Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Networks which are free for PDA student and trainee members to join. Delegates were particularly interested in the humanitarian work of the PDA and how they can get involved with PDA Student and Early Careers Networks.
