Following on from written evidence previously submitted to the select committee, Mark Koziol, PDA Chairman was able to provide comments on issues such as the state of morale among the pharmacist profession, what could be achieved through better commissioning arrangements, ideas around the future regulation of premises and professionals, and how pharmacists skills could make a significant contribution to patient care if more focused on medicines.
Mark said, “This was the first time that representatives of employed and locum pharmacists have given evidence to the Health and Social Care Committee and it was a great opportunity to ensure that their perspective was heard as part of the inquiry, I was keen to highlight the pressures that pharmacists are facing around workload and workforce, as well as offer solutions to some of the challenges that the health service is facing through a better focus on medicines and therefore pharmacists.
There are so many areas that we could have touched upon if time was unlimited. The PDA will be following up with the Committee by providing supplementary written evidence, meaning that we can provide more evidence and data on some of the areas that were covered today, as well as highlight some of the topics that were not discussed in this session, but are very relevant to the inquiry”.
The PDA will publish the supplementary evidence in due course. In the meantime, if you missed the session you can view it here or click on the image below.
