The day celebrates all inalienable rights, including a right to education, a decent living, health care, a right to live free from any form of discrimination, and more. Regardless of race, nationality, religion, sex, language, or any other status, human rights are inherent to all human rights.
Human Rights Day is important because everybody deserves to be treated fairly and respectfully. The day also promotes unity and serves as a reminder of how far society has come. The PDA puts a strong emphasis on these values.
The PDA was created by pharmacists for pharmacists and continues to exist for pharmacists. Therefore, if any member believes that their rights have been infringed at work or they have been discriminated against, the PDA can help.
The Equality Act 2010 provides a legal protection from discrimination for those living in England, Scotland or Wales. This protects permanent, full-time, part-time, and locum pharmacists. In Northern Ireland, the protection from discrimination falls under the Northern Ireland Act 1998.
PDA members should note that discrimination matters have a strict deadline of three months, less one day from the last act of discrimination or the last in a series of acts.
All discrimination claims are complicated so, those that believe they are suffering discrimination of any kind should contact the PDA Service Centre as soon as possible.
