The free-to-attend conference, held at the STUC Centre in Glasgow, will focus on three specific themes around anti-racism in the workplace. It aims to help attendees understand how to use their collective power to achieve positive change and provide them with practical political, organising, and industrial tools to take back into their trade unions and workplaces.
Xi Ken will participate in every session of the conference as part of a panel of expert speakers. The panel will help outline the context for each theme, share their views, and deepen discussions.
Earlier this year, Xi Ken won the STUC’s Equality Award for his work as a founding member of the PDA LGBT+ Network’s Committee and their first Honorary Secretary. The PDA LGBT+ Network is the first of its kind in the pharmacy world and has made a significant difference to the profile of LGBT+ people in the profession.
The following speakers will join him at the conference:
- Talat Ahmed – Co-Chair of the STUC Black Workers’ Committee & UCU
- Rakiya Suleiman – STUC BWC Member & UNISON
- Layla-Roxanne Hill – STUC BWC & NUJ
- Aamer Anwar – Human Rights Lawyer
- Zamard Zahid – Anti-racist Campaigner & Sheku-Bayoh Campaign Activist
- Paul Reddish – Ex-Cricket Scotland Director
- Trade Union Organiser/Workplace Representative
- Activist from Erskine Welcomes Refugees
All trade union activists in Scotland are welcome to attend the event, but spaces are limited.
