The PDA Union welcomes the letter from 14 trade unions sent to the Chancellor of the Exchequer today about NHS pay increases.
John Murphy, General Secretary of PDA Union, said: UNISON and the other trade unions which are part of the NHS negotiating structures are right to demand the treasury take appropriate action to give public sector employees a fair pay increase after years of the government’s austerity measures reducing real terms pay.”
PDAU members have been subject to the public sector pay cap and have felt the effect on their household income. The union is increasingly hearing from members about the impact on their lives with recent inflation figures highlighting the rising cost of living.
This week the government agreed to go slightly beyond the pay cap for Police and Prison Officers and this may be an attempt to divide the growing unity of public sector workers by giving larger increases to some, but not others.
Mr Murphy concluded: “As the only trade union exclusively for Pharmacists, we had already written to the Pharmacy Minister in Westminster, Steve Brine MP, to remind him that our members within the NHS will be looking to him to see how pharmacists are prioritised and valued in coming pay reviews”
We hope the Minister will help us reassure our members and future generations of pharmacists, that public service is still a viable employment choice for them and that their skills and knowledge will be appropriately rewarded”
