Proposed Changes to Boots Pension Plan

If you are an Alliance Boots Pharmacist Employee, please read the important information below.

Thu 4th February 2010 PDA Union

This article relates to a matter which arose in 2010 but is included for reference purposes.

A significant number of members have contacted us for advice regarding the surprise announcement of the closure of the UK Pension Schemes for Alliance Boots employees.

We are currently seeking specialist pension advice on behalf of our members through one of the top law firms in the UK.  It is apparent from the company timetable there are some urgent deadlines and prompt action by affected members is required in order to prepare for the consultation exercise.  We believe that independent and expert advice from pension specialists is essential for our members through this period of change and uncertainty.

The PDA Union urges all affected pension scheme members to stand for nomination as an employee representative using the form contained at the back of the “Proposed UK pension changes” booklet.

A copy of the application form can also be downloaded and the completed form MUST BE FAXED TO 020 7675 1900 NO LATER THAN MIDDAY on Tuesday 9th FEBRUARY 2010.

Do not rely solely on the post to submit your form and please fax your application as soon as possible to avoid missing the deadline.

Please note that it is our understanding that the time required to fulfil representative duties will be recompensed by the Company in either pay or time owing; however you should check this with your line manager first.

In order for the PDA Union to assist our members in standing for election, please also fax a copy of the completed form to our offices on 0121 694 7001.  This will allow us to circulate details of candidates to eligible voters, as well as provide independent training and support over and above that proposed by the Company.

The PDA Union also recommends that all affected members contact the Alliance Boots Pensions Helpline 0800 024 1348 and request a copy of the “Pensions Trust Deed and Rules”

We urge anyone who receives this email to pass it onto other Alliance Boots pharmacists.  At the discretion of the PDA Union Executive and due to the significant impact these proposals will have on many pension scheme members, Alliance Boots pharmacists not currently PDA Union members, but who apply for membership as a result of these proposals, will also receive discretionary support.
