Although females are more likely to be victims of Domestic Violence (DV) and abuse compared to males, there are still a significant number of men who are victims of DV. Abusers tend to be partners in both short-term and long-term relationships as well as family members.
Whilst there is a certain stigma attached to male victims of DV, it is important they seek confidential help.
- Men can call Men’s Advice Line on 0808 8010 327 (Monday and Wednesday, 9 am to 8 pm, and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9 am to 5 pm) for non-judgemental information and support. Or visit Mensadviceline.org.uk
- Men can also call ManKind on 0182 3334 244 (Monday to Friday, 10 am to 4 pm) or visit Mankind.org.uk.
Pharmacists, as frontline workers, can also support men who are being abused by contacting the Men’s Advice Line on their behalf confidentially and seeking further advice and information at mensadviceline for frontline workers which includes training and resources.
Pharmacists can show compassion and empathy in a non-judgmental manner as well as display posters and leaflets prominently within their pharmacies and inside their private consultation rooms to discreetly signpost male victims.
In raising awareness of facts regarding domestic violence, the PDA and our Equality Networks would like our membership working on the frontline to feel empowered to recognise and support victims in their day to day practice in their workplaces.
