Areas of support for primary care pharmacists

The PDA has been asked by the NHS to promote the different areas of support that are on offer for primary care pharmacists. These areas include wellbeing, teamwork, and career opportunities.

Wed 22nd December 2021 The PDA

NHS England and NHS Improvement have three different coaching sessions available all tailored to the needs of primary care colleagues. All sessions have experienced coaches that will be able to help those in primary care individually and encourage resilience in teams. The three coaching sessions on offer can be found below:

Session 1 – Looking after you too

This coaching session is dedicated to the wellbeing of those who work in primary care. This gives the opportunity to discuss any areas of wellbeing. Coaches will listen and offer support to help develop practical strategies to cope with situations and to stay well.

Session 2 – Looking after your team

This session is tailored to those who lead, manage, or organise teams, groups or services in primary care. Coaches will help those who lead and manage to better work with their teams and plan accordingly using approaches centred in compassionate and collaborative team leadership. The session will also allow for the development of practical tools and methods to better work within a team.

Session 3 – Looking after your career

The aim of this session is to provide easy access to a coaching service that focuses on supporting those in primary care with career choices. This session can be helpful to those thinking about exploring new opportunities and making some changes within their career. Talking points for the session can range from current career dilemmas, future career pathways and developing more meaning or purpose in current roles. The coaching is designed to be bespoke to the individual’s needs.

Please note, these sessions are for those who work in primary care and are employed by the NHS or working with an NHS funded employer delivering an NHS funded primary care contract. All sessions are available Monday to Friday between 8 am and 8 pm and Saturday between 10 am and 6 pm. The sessions will be delivered virtually, and the first session will last up to 45 minutes. Learn more here.

The PDA encourage all primary care pharmacists to consider these sessions and get support where they feel it is needed.
