Representatives of the previous committee of the National Association of Women Pharmacists (NAWP) presented the presidential chain and other historical items to the current PDA NAWP committee.
NAWP was founded in 1905 and the hardworking team of women pharmacists, who maintained the organization, should be celebrated for keeping the organisation going, especially while the membership numbers declined, and it struggled as an independent entity. Through their determination and hard work, the association continued its important mission of representing women pharmacists and is still able to do this.
Although a majority of today’s pharmacists are women, equality must still be fought for and NAWP continues to empower women in pharmacy. Women’s health issues still need to be highlighted and NAWP does this successfully. The work of NAWP remains as essential as ever and the PDA is pleased to be supporting that activity.
Due to the pandemic, the handing over of NAWP’s most historical items had been delayed. So, it was a significant moment when Anita White, NAWP president from 2013-2019, presented the current President, Ayah Abbass, with the Presidential Chain. This completes all aspects of the transfer of NAWP from an independent body to being a vibrant network within the PDA.
Though the PDA is a progressive and forward-thinking organisation, it has great respect for and recognises the significant value of those who came before, as well as the important history of the profession and the organisations within the sector.
