GPhC launches consultation on Fitness to Practise strategy

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is consulting on a Fitness to Practise strategy that aims to improve patient and public protection whilst being fair to pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

Mon 9th November 2020 The PDA

The newly developed strategy is titled ‘Managing concerns about pharmacy professionals: Our strategy for change’.

The GPhC is asking for views on the proposed strategy including the following key aspects:

  • Strategic aims and outcomes
  • A new approach to assessing concerns once they are raised with us
  • Introduction of several, more flexible, outcomes to conclude a concern, such as using a reflective piece and mediation
  • Addressing any inequalities and the risk of bias within decision making
  • Improving the service it provides by being more person-centred
  • Sharing best practice and learning from others

You can find a copy of the consultation document here.

We would urge members to take time to read and respond to this important consultation – either individually, or by returning their views to the PDA to be incorporated into our response.

We would also be interested in hearing from any members who have personal experience of the fitness to practice process and thoughts on how it should be improved. Please email us at: consultations@the-pda.org.

The consultation runs from 27/10/2020 to 22/01/2021.

We will post the PDA consultation response on the website in due course.
