PDAU issues advice to members after Morrisons announce closure of four UK stores, including a pharmacy in Shirley

PDA Union members at Morrisons are understandably concerned about their future after the company announced it would close four stores including one in Shirley in Solihull, which has a pharmacy. The PDA is offering high-level advice immediately and asking members with specific concerns to contact us.

Morrisons said the decision to close branches was part of a “constant review” of the performance of its 494 stores. The company added that it will aim to reduce redundancies and redeploy staff where possible.

The closures will put a total of around 400 retail staff at risk of losing their jobs overall and we hope that non-pharmacist colleagues are members of an appropriate retail union. Morrisons said that it would be consulting with all affected staff to discuss how to reduce redundancies.

We have attached a general briefing which we hope PDAU members at Morrisons will find helpful in answering general questions about what may happen if they are at risk of redundancy.  If you have already contacted the PDAU for advice on this situation, there is no need to contact us again unless there are developments with your situation.
