Cheryl Way, Chairman of the Cardiff branch of NAWP (National Association of Women Pharmacists) led a session entitled ‘Co-operation between community pharmacists and the NHS Wales Informatics Service on an IT platform to support the delivery of enhanced services.’
Cheryl was joined at the event by ten other NAWP members. This year’s theme was ‘Interdisciplinary working’ with ten talks addressing co-operation internally within health care (GPs, the pharmaceutical industry primary/secondary care, HPV networks); and externally (regulation, inspection, falsified medicines, Global GS1 standards, and data protection).
The meeting combined education, with sharing ideas on ways of working. Attendees were able to discover how issues are handled in other European countries. This applied to employment, practice, pharmaceutical, sphere of working and regulatory issues.
Attendees were given the opportunity to listen to presentations on examples of best practice in co-operation between pharmacists and other professionals. They were also able to network with colleagues from all fields of pharmacy.
The EWPM typically attracts pharmacists from at least 10 countries. Although most often held in Germany, previous meetings have also been held in Austria, Iceland, the Netherlands, and the UK.
The meeting was held on Saturday 23rd November but there were optional pharmacy-related and leisure activities taking place from 22nd to 24th November. This was an excellent opportunity for informal talks with European colleagues.
The 15th EWPM is currently being planned for 2020.
NAWP will become a network of the PDA from 1 January 2020 and you can read that story here and register to find out more about NAWP ‘s future by providing your email address below:
