PDA donations to Pharmacist Support exceed £250,000

Every year the PDA donates £1 per member to the profession’s independent charity, Pharmacist Support. Since 2017, the PDA has committed to making this contribution on an ongoing basis to support the work of the charity and can reveal that these donations now exceed £250k.

The PDA’s £1 per member donation also includes pharmacy students and trainee pharmacists who receive FREE PDA membership. Every donation to the charity helps to provide a wide range of support services to pharmacists and their families, pharmacy students, and former pharmacists in Great Britain.

Pharmacist Support is a well-established, independent and trusted charity supporting pharmacists and their families, former pharmacists, trainee pharmacists and pharmacy students. They provide a wide variety of free and confidential support services, including information and enquiries, specialist advice, financial assistance, addiction support, counselling and peer support, and the wardley wellbeing service. They’re proud to be able to support people from such a caring profession and each year provide thousands of acts of support. By championing wellbeing, Pharmacist Support’s vision is for no one in the pharmacy family to face challenging times without the charity by their side.

As well as supporting the charity financially, the PDA’s partnership with Pharmacist Support includes mental well-being workshops for pharmacy students that highlight practical tips on how to manage stress during the exam period, and how pharmacists can manage workplace stress.

The PDA believes that more can be done to help support pharmacists and their families and encourages all pharmacist organisations, whether large or small, to consider adopting the £1 per pharmacist approach to help more people in the profession.

Mark Pitt, PDA Director of Defence Services said, The PDA is there to help pharmacists with their professional, legal and employment issues, however there will sometimes be other challenges where Pharmacy Support are able to assist. As a pharmacist myself, and for the PDA as an organisation exclusively for pharmacists, it makes sense that we have partnered with this charity which was created by pharmacists for pharmacists. We are delighted to have already donated more than a quarter of a million pounds to the charity to date and look forward to maintaining this partnership, so that we can continue to support pharmacists who need help.

Danielle Hunt, Chief Executive of Pharmacist Support said, “We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support and generosity of the Pharmacists’ Defence Association, whose donations, alongside those from individual members, have now surpassed the remarkable milestone of £250,000. This significant contribution enables Pharmacist Support to continue providing essential support services to pharmacists and their families. The partnership between Pharmacist Support and the PDA is a testament to our shared commitment to the wellbeing of the pharmacy profession, and we look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals across the sector.”
