PDA marks White Ribbon Day

White Ribbon UK is a charity that works preventatively with men and boys to end violence against women and girls.

Fri 25th November 2022 The PDA

White Ribbon Day, held on 25 November, aims to prevent violence against women and girls by addressing its main causes. White Ribbon, the charity behind the national day, works to change the harmful attitudes and systems around masculinity that ultimately continues gender inequality and men’s violence against women.

With most violence against women being committed by men, White Ribbon aims to ensure men realise they can take responsibility by being prepared to call out harassing, sexist, and violent behaviour and to promote equality and respect. Men, in particular, are encouraged to make the White Ribbon Promise to never use, excuse, or remain silent about men’s violence against women.

MAKE THE WHITE RIBBON PROMISE

The PDA is committed to fighting all forms of inequality, including gender-based discrimination. One of the many ways that the PDA does this is through the use of the National Association of Women Pharmacists (NAWP). The NAWP Network, which is one of four Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Networks that are part of the PDA, represents the interests of women pharmacists and takes action to further gender equality.

Recently, NAWP has produced factsheets to increase awareness for women’s health issues, worked extensively on domestic violence by participating in the 16 Days of Action Against Domestic Violence campaign, and delivered panel sessions on Women in Pharmacy at the Pharmacy Show and Clinical Pharmacist Congress. NAWP will also be hosting two equal pay events in December 2022 for NAWP members.

It’s not just women who are able to support NAWP. Allyship helps work towards creating inclusive and equal communities by standing up for the rights of those who are discriminated against. To find out more about being an ally, click here.
