PDA redundancy guide launched following events to support members

The PDA has responded quickly to recent concerns from members facing the prospect of redundancy. Today, the PDA publishes its most up-to-date redundancy guide.

On Tuesday 18 April, PDA members attended an event to learn about their employment rights should they face a redundancy situation. Recent events at LloydsPharmacy and some supermarket chains have highlighted that pharmacists are not immune to being made redundant.

Liz Larkin, PDA Organiser, and Barinder Kataria, PDA Legal Advisor, gave a presentation on employment rights and the process that employers are required to follow in the event of redundancies. Kate Kensington, PDA Head of Education, chaired the event.

Forty members attended from different employers and were informed on what measures employers should take to avoid redundancies, the rights to consultation, and entitlements to notice pay and redundancy pay.

Barinder Kataria said, “Unfortunately at the PDA some of our members are facing redundancy. Whilst they are likely to find alternative employment quickly, the PDA is supporting members to understand their rights and ensure employers are acting fairly.”

Liz Larkin said, “The event brought together a large number of PDA members, giving them an opportunity to raise any concerns about a redundancy process they may be going through or about the risks of redundancy. The open forum format helped to provide advice and support to many members at one time. The guide is an easy-to-read document to help members understand their rights and what they can do.”

Members who are concerned about their individual situation should speak to their PDA Rep or contact the PDA Member Support Centre.
