PDA statement on the Israel/Gaza conflict:
The PDA condemns all acts of violence, and the killing of civilians and calls for the immediate safe release of all hostages.
The PDA calls on all parties to the conflict to adhere to obligations under international humanitarian law, namely that under the Geneva Conventions the ill-treatment and killing of civilians is prohibited and the sick and wounded must be cared for.
The PDA supports the statement from its global federation, the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), including to respect access to healthcare and ensure the safety of civilians and healthcare workers regardless of religion, political affiliation, and ethnicity. Access to health is a fundamental human right and any attack on health workers and the patients they serve is abhorrent and unacceptable.
The PDA is calling upon parliamentarians within the UK and the wider international community to make all efforts within their power to ensure international law is upheld and to support work towards a long-term sustainable peace in the region.
The PDA is also concerned about the increase in reported incidents of antisemitism and Islamophobia in local communities and calls for the end of such attacks.
