PDA secure over £50,000 in unpaid locum fees for members this year

Over the years, the PDA has secured hundreds of thousands of pounds of outstanding locum fees for members, but 2019 is proving to be the year with the highest value of unpaid fees to date.

So far this year, the PDA has supported locum members to secure £50,031.22 in fees owed by pharmacy companies and the year still has several weeks remaining.

Once all information is received from the member, the PDA team advises and supports locums on how to obtain the fees they are owed.

The PDA records show that these cases can involve any pharmacy from the largest multiples to single pharmacy operators, which is why we have developed a clear process in the steps required to secure our members the money that they are owed. The highest value case to date this year has been for over £10,000 and the highest value ever was for £12,000.

Paul Day, PDA Director, said ”Getting paid for the work you’ve done is a basic right and these amounts matter to locums as they are their legitimate earnings. Just as the PDA stands up for employed pharmacists if they are unlawfully underpaid, we also represent locum members who find themselves in a situation where they have worked but the pharmacy owner doesn’t pay them.

Pharmacy owners and managers need to make sure they pay all pharmacists the agreed amount for their work on time and without needing to be challenged.”

If you are a PDA member that is a locum pharmacist having difficulty obtaining monies owed to you for locum work, please contact us. Pharmacists that are not yet PDA members are also encouraged to join us and get advice and support.
