The weekend offered young members of trade unions the opportunity to learn more about the challenge’s unions face and learn more about the labour movement.
The informative event was a great networking opportunity, with trade union representation from across the UK. Manuella Asso, Organising Assistant at the PDA, along with five PDA student reps attended the event to learn more about delivering effective campaigns.
The three-day event focused on climate change as well as the struggle’s unions face at a global level and how they have managed to successfully mobilise and create an impact.
Other topics included the history of how unions got started, the history of how the GFTU was formed and the history of GFTU affiliates, but the general message was that everyone has a voice, and influence, which can be utilised to help you become more of an effective trade unionist.
One of the PDA Student Reps commented:
“This event was beneficial towards learning about unions and allowed me to gain valuable knowledge. It was also a great opportunity to network with people outside of pharmacy and I have made very important connections. The event was also geared towards climate change which was eye-opening towards the serious issues we often ignore. It has motivated me to start small changes within pharmacy such as encouraging the use of recycling bins.”
