TUC General Secretary, Paul Nowak said, “The right to strike is a fundamental British liberty, but the government is attacking it in broad daylight. These draconian new curbs will tilt the balance of power even more in favour of bad bosses and make it harder for people to win better pay and conditions. Nobody should lose their job if they take lawful action to win a better deal…Unions will fight these plans every step of the way, including through parliament and through the courts.”
This is an important moment in time for all healthcare workers including pharmacists as this legislation impacts on their employment rights. The PDA supports the TUC’s position and wants its members to be in an informed position about these intended changes, which is why the PDA is hosting an event for members on Wednesday 1 February to coincide with national ‘protect the right to strike’ day.
At the event, members will hear about:
- The important liberty of the right to strike
- What changes the government are intending to make
- What the PDA and the wider Trade Union movement are doing in response
- Why PDA Reps believe the right to strike is essential and should be protected
PDA members can take action now and:
- Register for the event
- Watch a video from Paul Nowak, TUC General Secretary
- Sign the TUC’s petition to protect the right to strike
- Find out more about the right to strike campaign
