We appreciate that most pharmacists have been in the pharmacy and on wards with patients throughout the pandemic, however we are also aware that there are a significant number who have worked at home for some of the time, including many working in CCGs, health boards and other environments where office locations were closed for periods during lockdown.
Other pharmacists may have worked from home due to isolating for health grounds, if their employer had work that they could do remotely.
Whatever the reason for home working, HMRC have recognised that the working-from-home situation is very fluid this year, and so they are accepting claims for the full year’s expenses from taxpayers who have spent time working at home. HMRC have confirmed that this applies even if individuals have only worked from home for some of the year, even just one day.
We wanted to let pharmacists know that this arrangement exists. Those who complete self-assessment tax returns can therefore include this in their annual tax return and those who do not complete a self-assessment, the HMRC have created a microservice website here.
