Pillbox Chemists Ltd made an unlawful deduction from an employees’ wages by failing to pay her December salary which should have been £1,583.33 before deductions. This resulted in the Judge ordering Pillbox Chemists Lt to pay the employee the sum of £478.20 in respect of this unlawful deduction.
The claimant stated that the reason for the figure was wrong was because the respondent deducted ‘training costs’ in the sum of £459.67. The claimant also stated that in April 2017 the respondent made a deduction from her salary in the sum of £192.92. The claimant said that this deduction was also made in respect of training. The claimant further stated that she was never provided with any training by the respondent during her employment.
This resulted in the Judge agreeing that the claimant was entitled to recover £1583.33 for December 2017 salary and a further £459.67 in respect of the underpayment of her April 2017 salary.
The judge stated that the respondent had made an unlawful deduction from the claimant’s wages and was therefore ordered to the claimant the sum of £1786.25.
