Withdrawal and Nullification- Sitting the registration assessment in March 2021

With the assessment fast approaching (17 & 18 March), the PDA is aware that some members may find themselves in situations that will have an adverse impact on their performance.

Wed 24th February 2021 The PDA

For those due to sit the assessment, the impact of the pandemic, family situations or working life, may mean that your ability to prepare for the exam is compromised.

As part of our ongoing support for prov-regs and pre-reg resitters, the PDA wants to remind you of the two options that are available, should you have any difficulties prior to, or during your assessment.

If you feel that your performance will be, or has been, significantly affected you have two options.

1. You can choose to withdraw

You can apply to withdraw providing you did not attempt the assessment.

To withdraw, you must:

  • Complete a Notification of Withdrawal form to notify the GPhC that you would like to withdraw. This includes if you withdraw on the day or do not turn up to the sitting
  • Send your completed form to [email protected] by Thursday 25 March 2021
  • Ensure you receive confirmation of receipt of your withdrawal form.

You will then receive a refund for the exam entry fee of £182 within 28 days of the assessment date.

If you do not formally withdraw from the assessment, you will forfeit that sitting and the fee and it will count as one of your assessment attempts.

2. You can apply for nullification

If you experience something which significantly affects your performance during the sitting, you can apply for nullification.

To apply for nullification you must:

  • Make your invigilator aware of the problem or incident during the assessment and/or prior to leaving the test centre
  • Formally apply to request a nullification within 5 working days of the assessment
  • Provide suitable evidence to support your request

There is no official guidance on what evidence can be submitted, but if you have a medical problem, evidence from your GP or the person who treats your problem should be submitted. If you experience technical problems you should keep a time log of what happened when and the impact of those problems.

The invigilator will complete a report which will be sent to the GPhC. The Board of Assessors will consider whether or not to grant your result.

Note, you will not be informed of your assessment result.

The nullification form will be available from 17 March on the registration assessment sitting page on the GPhC website. It must be submitted by Thursday 25 March. Your assessment fee will not be refunded.

Complete the form and submit it with your evidence to [email protected].

“The PDA would like to stress to members who are preparing to sit the assessment that if you are aware of anything that may adversely impact on your preparation or performance on the day, that you do not sit the assessment and you wait until the June 2021 assessment date,” said Kate Kensington, Head of Education at the PDA.

Further guidance and advice from the PDA about the process for the March 2021 assessment can be found here.
