The pharmacy profession can only thrive if strong leaders are steering its course. Leadership can be inherited or learned, nonetheless, every good leader possesses identifiable qualities that must be nurtured at the early stages of their career.

Mark Koziol, Chairman of the PDA, says: “All pharmacy students are hugely absorbed in their extensive, and often, very challenging, studies. Despite that, some involve themselves in additional activities that demonstrate, that not only do they have a passion for their profession but that they are also becoming leaders in their own right.”

Cheryl Smyth, PDA Union Regional Official (Scotland), says: “This is an excellent opportunity for a pharmacy student to stand out from the rest and be recognised and rewarded for their leadership qualities. It is a chance for students to establish themselves within the profession. I encourage pharmacy students in Scotland to have confidence in their abilities and achievements and apply for this award.”

The 2019 winner of the Student Leadership Award, Erin Gilmour, adds: “The awards were a lovely night for me last year and I feel it would have been even if I hadn’t won, it was great to see so many senior members of the profession and hear about the different projects taking place across the country.”

The PDA believes such qualities must be championed and celebrated at undergraduate level. We are pleased to be an active participant in these awards and encourage all those eligible for this award to consider applying.
