PDA Education in Spring 2022

In April 2022 we launched our online revision programme for trainee pharmacists planning to sit the GPhC assessment in June 2022. Hundreds of PDA trainee members have signed up for this course which includes practice assessment questions, case studies, mock calculations, and clinical exams.

Sony Rai, trainee pharmacist said, “The questions and case studies are so informative and useful. It really helps that even if I get a question incorrect and don’t understand it the answers have a detailed explanation alongside it. My only regret is I did not join the revision programme sooner.”

We have continued to support our charity partners Pharmacist Support by encouraging pharmacy students and trainees to sign up to their ACTNow wellbeing campaign. Through this support, and by working with the charity we have run two wellbeing workshops; one for our student members and one for trainee members who are undertaking the revision programme.

We recently hosted our PDA Campaigning and Organising online workshop for PDA Workplace Reps which aimed to give them the tools to develop and run campaigns with members. We were pleased to welcome a guest speaker from the National Education Union (NEU) Jacinta Phillips. Jacinta is a senior organiser who shared her experience of leading a successful campaign on pensions in a chain of independent schools.

We also hosted our first Organising on Mental Health Course for PDA Reps which took place at Quorn Grange. PDA Reps reported that they enjoyed the course and shared how they will support members to organise work environments which support good mental health.

Following the learning needs survey that was completed by over 500 PDA members we are now developing our bespoke offer of courses, workshops, and events that members asked for. We are also developing a programme of courses for PDA Reps.

In the upcoming weeks, PDA Education will run our first summer school which will provide free online short courses written specifically for PDA members.

Upcoming courses

Your Rights at Work: This course will help members to understand the basics of their rights at work and how to access support when faced with concerns. The programme opens with a live online workshop, followed by helpful online resources on the PDA’s Education Hub that members can access in their own time to support their learning. This course is aimed primarily at employed pharmacists and trainees, the terms of locum pharmacists are different.

The following online courses will be self-directed learning and will be available on the PDA Education hub:

•    Mental Health Awareness
•    Being a Mentor
•    Taking the Stress out of Exams for student members.
•    PDA Reps Induction for new PDA representatives and members of PDA Committees

In the upcoming weeks, we will be sending an email to make members aware of when they can register for the above courses, for those interested please keep an eye out.
