Winners of the 2018 Welsh Pharmacy Awards revealed

The 2018 Welsh Pharmacy Awards took place at the Vale Resort in Glamorgan on the 24th May. The annual event honours the pharmacy sector’s emerging talent, as well as the service delivered by pharmacist’s year after year. This year’s ceremony marked the 10th anniversary of the awards.

The categories available for entry ranged from Innovation in Service Delivery in Community Pharmacy Independent, and Hospital Pharmacy Team of the Year, to the Student Leadership Award, which was sponsored by the PDA.

Each year the PDA sponsor the same category in the Northern Ireland, Welsh and Scottish Pharmacy Awards. The full list of 2018 Welsh Pharmacy award winners can be found below.

  • Collaborative Working Award – Jonathan Lloyd Jones, Sheppards Chemist, Aberdare
  • Innovations in Quality and Efficiency through Technology in Community Pharmacy Award – Steffan John, D Powys Davies Pharmacy, Blaenau Ffestiniog
  • Hospital Pharmacy Team of the Year Award – Reuben Morgan and the Medicines Homecare team, Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board
  • Asthma Project of the Year Award – Deb Hughes and team, LloydsPharmacy, Baglan Moor
  • Independent Community Pharmacy Practice of the Year Award – Jonathan Lloyd Jones, Sheppards Chemist, Aberdare
  • Independent Community Pharmacist of the Year Award – Craig Hinks, New Inn Pharmacy, Pontypool
  • Special Recognition Award – Mark Griffiths, Chair, Community Pharmacy Wales

Money was raised on the night for this year’s nominated charity, Welsh Hearts Charity, which works in partnership with The Welsh Ambulance Service to increase access to defibrillators, as well as offer free CPR training to communities all over Wales.
