World Pharmacists’ Day 2021

Today is World Pharmacists’ Day (25 September) where pharmacists are celebrated for their hard work and dedication to the profession.

Sat 25th September 2021 The PDA

Today, pharmacists all over the world are recognised for the amazing work they do every day to make a positive difference to patients’ lives. This has especially been the case during the Covid-19 global pandemic where pharmacists have faced many challenges and have made a vital contribution to the healthcare sector.

During the pandemic, many pharmacists have also supported the PDA #GetVaccinated campaign, which aims to dispel Covid-19 myths and tackles vaccine hesitancy, especially for those in the BAME community. The pharmacist-led campaign was launched in February 2021 and is an initiative developed by the PDA’s BAME Pharmacists’ Network.

ACTNow wellbeing campaign

Also, to mark World Pharmacists’ Day, the PDA is proudly supporting the ACTNow wellbeing campaign which launches today and is run by PDA’s charity partner Pharmacist Support.

Pharmacist Support is dedicated to championing the wellbeing of those studying and working in pharmacy. The past 18 months have been incredibly tough for pharmacists, and the charity believes it’s time to take a moment to pause, take stock and prioritise your wellbeing.

The PDA encourages members to sign up to the 5-week ACTNow campaign where they will receive exclusive and dedicated wellbeing and mental health guidance and resources to use individually and with the whole team.

Running from 25 September – 29 October, the campaign focuses on the science behind wellbeing, putting wellbeing into practice and showing how easy it can be to incorporate simple wellbeing activities into your day.

Throughout the 5 weeks, pharmacists can join in with free and simple activities connected to the 5 Ways to Wellbeing, including Science Behind Wellbeing panel chats, a wide range of resources for you and your pharmacy team, online workouts, and a Workplace Wellbeing Pack to help you start your positive mental health and wellbeing at work journey.

To benefit from these activities, resources and many more, you’ll need to sign up to the #ACTNow campaign!

#ACTNow encourages individuals to:

  • Allow time for wellbeing
  • Consider the needs of others
  • Take action.
  • Now! You can start improving your health and wellbeing by signing up to the campaign today.

What is wellbeing?

Wellbeing is the state of having good mental health, high life satisfaction, a sense of meaning or purpose, and the ability to manage stress. It’s important to realise that wellbeing is a much deeper concept than moment-to-moment happiness, and we must invest in it if we want to have sustained happiness, control of our emotions, higher productivity, and good physical health.
