  Welcome to the October 2026 PDA BAME Network Newsletter. In this issue, we explore why race equality in pharmacy must extend beyond pay to include fair access to progression and opportunity, and we hear from Vice President Ewura-Adjoa Yamoah on the value of student leadership.

  In this member voice article, Nav Bhogal, PDA BAME Network co-opted committee member, explores the issue of race-related pay inequality and the legal protections available to workers under the Equality Act 2010. He highlights why fair pay extends beyond salary alone and outlines the practical steps BAME workers can take if they believe race has influenced decisions affecting their pay.

• PDA EDI Networks Conference 2026 champions inclusive pharmacy practice

  Pharmacists, pharmacy students and trainees from across the UK gathered on 6 June 2026 for the PDA’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Networks Conference, a dynamic event focused on advancing inclusivity within the profession.  

• PDA Union hosts solidarity event ‘Together: Standing up for equality’

  On 24 February 2026, the PDA Union brought members and allies together for an inspiring online event, ‘Together: Standing up for equality’. Against a backdrop of increasing discrimination against minoritised groups and growing polarisation in the UK, the event called for unity, hope, and collective action.

  The emergence of large-scale flag displays across towns and cities in the UK has prompted discussion among some PDA BAME Network members, trade unionists, and equality campaigners.  

• PDA BAME Network comments on NHS pay disparity review

  The NHS Race and Health Observatory (RHO) commission is due to do a review of the ‘unjust’ NHS ethnic pay gap. The PDA BAME Network has commented on this project and welcomes the review, as it hopes to see change within the NHS.

  Following the launch of the government’s latest Immigration White Paper and in particular the comments made on 12 May 2025 at the press conference about the risk of the UK becoming “an island of strangers” rather than “a nation that walks forward together,” members of the PDA BAME Network felt it appropriate to add their voices to those expressing concern about some of the narrative used by the UK government.
