A Doctor has won a landmark case in the Employment Tribunal which found there was less favourable treatment of him during the regulatory process compared to a white doctor.
The Employment Tribunal also expressed concerns about the level of complacency shown by the medical regulator regarding the possibility that the referral to the GMC by the employing NHS Foundation Trust could have been tainted by discrimination.
The Tribunal found the Doctor to be an honest and credible witness and criticised the four-year delay in the GMC’s handling of the case.
Whilst this case relates to another healthcare regulator, the PDA is reviewing the implications of the judgement and what this may mean for pharmacists who are regulated by the PSNI or GPhC.
Support for pharmacists under regulatory investigation is one of the many benefits for pharmacists of PDA membership.
