PDA members have produced a charter of seven commitments to improve safety and care for patients,
through better working conditions in UK pharmacy practice. This charter defines basic standards to ensure safe practice wherever pharmacists work and is gaining support from those who want to see improved patient safety.
The commitments in the charter should be standard practice whenever and wherever pharmacy work is carried out. We actively encourage other interested parties to endorse the charter and those who own or manage pharmacies to adopt the charter and ensure the commitments are fulfilled in their pharmacies.
Health Campaigns Together (HCT) is the latest organisation to add support to the charter, adding the backing of patient safety campaigners from across the country.
HCT is a coalition of organisations campaigning to defend the National Health Service against cutbacks, fragmentation, market-style reforms and privatisation. Its objective is to re-instate a comprehensive, universal, publicly owned, provided and publicly accountable NHS, which is free at the point of use and has the resources to provide 21st century care for all on a long-term and sustainable basis.
A HCT spokesperson said: “Health Campaigns Together welcomes the Safer Pharmacies Charter. We believe in partnerships between patients and health workers and the Charter is a perfect example of this.“
