NAWP encourages pharmacists to take part in Wear it Pink

Friday 18 October 2024 is Wear it Pink day, which is one of the biggest fundraising events in the UK. The event, created by the UK’s largest breast cancer charity, Breast Cancer Now, raises money to support breast cancer research.

The PDA NAWP Network is encouraging all pharmacists to take part in Wear it Pink. Pharmacists are invited to get involved by sending a photo of themselves wearing pink to nawp@the-pda.org by Sunday 6 October. The photos will be used to create a poster, which will be shared on social media to help raise donations and awareness of the charity and the important work they do.

President of the PDA NAWP Network, Lourette Latif Philips said, “October, the pink month, is coming. It is time to dress in pink and raise money and awareness for breast cancer, as well as show support to the two million women around the world who are diagnosed each year. Everyone needs to get involved: this opens up conversations about breast cancer and raises money to fund research into treatment and cure. NAWP members will wear pink, organise events, share photos, and donate.

Pharmacy is an integral part of the community where patients come to seek support and a safe space. Pharmacy teams wearing pink and getting involved will show support to those who have been diagnosed and educate the public about early detection. Breast cancer commonly affects women, but anyone can develop it. It is essential to catch the disease early when it is most treatable. So let us all join together and wear pink.”

The PDA NAWP Network has taken part in the annual charity event since 2021 and has raised a total of £660 for Breast Cancer Now.

Breast Cancer Now is a UK charity that is dedicated to supporting people affected by breast cancer. Their mission is to ensure that, by 2050, everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live and be supported to live well. Since its launch in 2002, Wear it Pink has successfully raised over £41 million, which has helped Breast Cancer Now continue to support those affected, as well as to be a driving force behind breakthroughs in the prevention, detection, and treatment of breast cancer.
