PDA supports CEPOW 2022

Wednesday 22 June 2022 marks the Global Day of Action to Climate and Employment Proof our Work (CEPOW). The PDA is supporting the day by encouraging pharmacists and pharmacy employers to discuss plans for resilience and sustainable business.

The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) are asking for support to help with the climate change emergency by asking workers around the world to take part in the 2022 Global Day of Action. The PDA is joining in this support by encouraging pharmacists to invite their employers to discuss plans for safety, jobs, emissions, and a secure pathway for the future.

Following the devastation of the Covid-19 pandemic, the world requires new levels of care, social protection, and economic stimulus. The world is already seeing the effects of climate change with extreme heatwaves, sea level rises, crop failures, and more. IPCC climate scientists explain that we must act quickly to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees to avoid massive threats.

How to get involved

  • Sign up to get updates about the Global Day of Action.
  • Talk to employers, local businesses, or a member of a local or national government on 22 June 2022. Meetings can take place in person or virtually.
  • Download the Global Day of Action campaign pack for more tools on this campaign.
  • Use the hashtags #CEPOW and #CEPOW22 when talking about the day on social media.

The day may be of particular interest to pharmacists working in Northern Ireland this year as inter-departmental negotiations on sectoral targets intensify in advance of the July deadline set out in the Climate Bill. Those in Northern Ireland can learn more by downloading the Irish booklet here.
