HCT is a coalition of organisations campaigning to defend the National Health Service against cutbacks, fragmentation, market-style reforms and privatisation. Its objective is to re-instate a comprehensive, universal, publicly owned, provided and publicly accountable NHS, which is free at the point of use and has the resources to provide 21st century care for all on a long-term and sustainable basis.
Paul Day, National Officer PDA Union
Paul Day, National Officer of the Pharmacists’ Defence Association (PDA) Union said: “We progress the views and interests of our members in a range of ways and being part of HCT, working alongside health professionals from other trade unions and with wider supporters of the NHS is another way we can positively influence the health sector in which our members are employed.”
John Lister, Editor of Health Campaigns Together
John Lister, Editor of Health Campaigns Together, said: “HCT are delighted that another health sector trade union has joined our growing coalition and welcome the contribution of PDA Union’s members. NHS workers, patients and wider supporters need to work together if we are to defend our much loved NHS from attack and ensure it remains free at the point of use. Pharmacists have a key role in building a successful NHS: we need them as part of our campaign not just to defend what we have, but improve and expand it to provide 21st century care for all on a long-term and sustainable basis.”

Paul Day concluded: “There are some specific concerns for pharmacy, for example our campaign for the Safer Pharmacies Charter to be adopted and petitions against remote supervision, which we know others that support the NHS will also be concerned about. Highlighting these campaigns to HCT colleagues and gaining their support will help the PDA achieve the outcomes our members want.”
