Recap of the Pharmacy Show 2018

The Pharmacy Show took place at the NEC in Birmingham on 7th & 8th October 2018. The team were delighted to see so many PDA members. We also introduced ourselves to many new faces over the course of the two day show. As well as assisting with membership queries, we promoted the Safer Pharmacies Charter and the Wider than Medicines strategy.

Additionally, we sponsored the GP Pharmacy Theatre where we ran 7 informative and engaging sessions that saw us introduce an impressive array of speakers including: Emma Davies, Ann Page, Stephen-Andrew White, Duncan Jenkins, Clair Huckerby and Afshan Ghaffar. All were ably chaired by our very own Alima Batchelor and Liz Brooke.

We also sponsored the Women in Pharmacy keynote session, which was chaired by Claire Ward, PDA Director of Public Affairs. Claire led an inspirational panel of key influencers including;

  • Dr Christine Heading, Executive Committee Member of National Association of Women Pharmacists
  • Olutayo Arikawe, Superintendent Pharmacist and MD of LT coaching and consulting LTD.
  • Reena Barai, Community Pharmacist and National Pharmacy Association Board member
  • Thorrun Govind, Community Pharmacist and Royal Pharmaceutical Society English Pharmacy Board member.

The session explored the issues which are acting as barriers to women getting more involved in the leadership of the profession at every level, with the vast majority of the audience citing that they were either more interested, or indeed ready to get involved in leadership, following the session. Not a bad hours’ work for that panel by anyone’s standards.

We were also thrilled to be advised that our members had rated us the highest (of the pharmacy bodies) in an independent poll conducted by Pharmacy Magazine. A huge thank you to all who voted, we really appreciate your support!

If you were not able to make it along to the show, why not have a look through our pictures to get a flavour of the event, you’ll see a gallery of supporters for our Safer Pharmacies Charter as well as other key highlights too.

We support the Safer Pharmacies Charter, do you?
