As member of the PDA you will automatically be entitled to Legal Defence Costs insurance providing a limit of up to £500,000 worth of protection.
Any legal dispute can be difficult to resolve. Practical professional
advice is essential – taken in time it can often resolve a
problem and prevent it from going any further. If indeed a problem
needs to go to law, expensive legal costs will accrue not only if
the case is lost but often in successful cases too. The knowledge
that you enjoy up to £500,000 worth of legal protection will
provide you with a considerable amount of peace of mind.
The Legal Defence Costs insurance will provide you with:
- The cost of legal representation
- Relevant associated costs, e.g lawyer's
sundry expenses, the cost of leading counsel, witness statements,
expenses, etc.
Standard or Full Membership?
It is important to note that Legal Defence Costs insurance alone
will not protect you in the event of a civil claim for compensation
being made against you. Nor will it provide for any compensation
payments that may need to be paid on your behalf to any third parties.
This ‘professional indemnity' protection will only be
covered if you take out Full membership, which will also provide
you with the Professional Indemnity insurance protection.
Nevertheless, subject to the limitation mentioned, we believe that
the Legal Defence Costs insurance provides an exceptionally comprehensive
range of protection which has proved highly beneficial for many
members in the past.
Best form of protection
By far the best form of protection is available when both PI and
Legal Defence Costs insurance are taken together.
97.5% of all PDA members opt for this option and take out Full
membership of the PDA.
