The PDA

We look after the interests of individual pharmacists. We defend you when you are faced with a conflict, and we proactively lobby the individual pharmacist's agenda.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our philosophy is built on the fact that the vast majority of the profession are employee or locum pharmacists and yet the pharmacy environment is controlled by a small number of well-organised and well-represented employers. There is no organisation that looks solely after the interests of employees and locums and this means that the large disparate majority of pharmacists can be vulnerable and exposed in a wide variety of situations. We aim to redress this imbalance.

How we work

There are two main strands to the work of the PDA:

We provide you with a wide range of Defence Association benefits designed to improve the status and working environment of the individual pharmacist and, by so doing, to improve patient care.

The insurance* included in your membership provides you with a safeguard of up to £500,000 of Legal Defence Costs, up to £5,000,000 Public Liability Insurance and up to £10,000,000 of Professional Indemnity insurance to defend you in the event that you face a conflict in the areas of:

  • Civil claims
  • Prosecution
  • Professional Disciplinary Action
  • Employment Disputes

This unique combination of Defence Association backed by insurance protection provides you with the most comprehensive and cost effective way of ensuring that your interests will always be kept at the forefront by an organisation that is dedicated to defending your reputation.

*The insurance included with PDA membership is arranged and administered by The Pharmacy Insurance Agency (PIA) Ltd who are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (Register No 307063).
