Professional responsibility means personal accountability and that means that you, the individual pharmacist, will be held to account for any decisions that you make or activities that you supervise.
Because the vast majority of pharmacists rarely find themselves
working alongside other pharmacists, there are many situations where
they are required to make professional judgements in isolation.
Where to turn for advice
Some pharmacists are fortunate enough to be able to easily telephone
a superintendent or principal pharmacist, or other more experienced
pharmacist colleague, for advice. Others feel that their queries
can be handled by the RPSGB. However, there are still those situations
where pharmacists either cannot or feel nervous about, making use
of such facilities.
How can the PDA help?
The PDA helpline or PDA email facility is designed to give you
a totally independent source of support in such situations.
In addition to being provided with legal, ethical and professional
advice by one of the experienced PDA pharmacists or PDA Advisory
Board members, you are also entitled to legal advice on any non
pharmaceutical matter provided by lawyers who are on standby 24
hours a day.
