PDA Union and Boots UK sign historic recognition agreement

Representatives of Boots UK and the pharmacists’ trade union, PDA Union have signed a formal recognition agreement outlining how the union will represent the 7,000 store-based pharmacists and pre-registration pharmacists at the largest multiple pharmacy employer in the UK.

This arrangement at Boots is just the beginning of the recognition journey with other employers for PDA Union and we believe the agreement with Boots will help over time to improve conditions at other employers and will benefit locums as well.

In our fourth annual patient safety survey, we invite pharmacists to share their experience of safety in the workplace. This survey is open to employees and locums in community and hospital pharmacies.

PDA respond to GPhC consultation on guidance for pharmacist prescribersThe GPhC consulted from 29 March 2019 to 21 June 2019 on guidance to support pharmacist prescribers in meeting their “Standards for Pharmacy Professionals”, and to ensure pharmacists provide safe and effective care when prescribing.

PDA respond to call for evidence of violence and abuse toward shop staff

The Home Office has called for evidence on the problem of violence and abuse toward shop staff in England and Wales. It asked for relevant evidence on the prevalence of it, prevention and support measures, the operation of the criminal justice system and the best way of addressing it.

Locums – Don’t be caught out by IR35There has been a lot of confusion recently around IR35 but just to clarify, IR35 has been in force for a long time. The legislation is designed to combat tax avoidance by workers supplying their services to clients via an intermediary, such as a limited company, but who would be an employee if the intermediary was not used. ‘Disguised employees’, if caught by IR35, are liable for Tax and NICs in the same way as an employee. IR35 was previously only applicable to the public sector, but from April 2020, it will also apply to the private sector.
