Wales lead the way in campaign to end violence in pharmacies

Once again, those in Wales are taking the issue of violence in pharmacies very seriously and are increasing their activity to keep pharmacists, pharmacy customers and patients safe from violence.

In December, PDAU Regional Committee Chair, Richard Evans was invited to present to a meeting of Police Commissioners and Chief Constables on the topic and this has resulted in the police progressing support for the campaign.

This is another great example of how the PDA campaign is being supported in Wales after the PDA’s Safer Pharmacies Charter was circulated along with the PDA’s Violence in Pharmacy policy and resource pack as part of a joint campaign by the PDA and Community Pharmacy Wales (CPW) last year.

The PDA presentation, delivered by Richard Evans at the All Wales Policing Group on 4 December, ended with the PDA asking all police forces in Wales to:

  • Identify pharmacies and risks in your communities
  • Encourage pharmacies to utilise PDA resource pack to manage risks
  • Ensure officers understand that attacks on community pharmacists are within the scope of Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Act 2018
  • Let us know if the PDA can help you

Richard Evans said: “The PDA want to keep pharmacists safe at work and we are very pleased with how the law enforcement in Wales see this as an important issue and the PDA look forward to working with them to keep pharmacies as safe places for all.
