NAWP secures a future as part of the PDA

The National Association of Women Pharmacists (NAWP) has secured a future as a network within the PDA. NAWP will become a semi-autonomous network, open to both PDA members and non-members. The 114-year-old organisation had previously announced that the organisation was closed to new members and would dissolve as an independent body at the end of the year. The arrangement made public earlier this month means NAWP will now continue its work in a new format.

PDA responds to BEIS consultation on Neonatal Leave & PayThe Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has consulted on proposals for a new leave and pay entitlement for parents of babies that require neonatal care after birth. This would be an entitlement to be absent from work to care for the baby, so that, as far as possible, parents have additional time at home with their child to compensate for the time their child was in hospital after birth.

PDA National Conference: First session announced

We reveal one of the sessions at the PDA National Conference 2020. In the session, ‘Pharmacists’ strike action – the inside story from Norway‘, Greta Torbergsen, General Secretary of the Norwegian Association of Pharmacists will describe how a dispute at Vitusapotek, the second largest community pharmacy multiple in Norway was settled just hours before strike action was about to proceed. Pharmacists had already begun the unprecedented process to commence a strike after the union rejected an initial inadequate pay offer.

In a demonstration of what a pharmacist union with recognition at an employer can achieve for its members, just twelve months earlier, the union successfully negotiated a reduction in working hours for pharmacists working at Boots in Norway. Greta Torbergsen was at the centre of both of these negotiations and will tell us how Norwegian pharmacists stand up for the profession.
