Paul Day, PDA Director said: “Nothing can be more important than the safety of pharmacists, other staff and patients and PDA members need to know that their workplaces are as safe as they can be. We are seeing more action on this issue in Wales than anywhere else and we encourage the other parts of the UK to follow their lead.”
The PDA Safer Pharmacies Charter includes a commitment to physical safety and the Violence in Pharmacies Resource Pack and Policy provides practical measures that can be followed to increase safety. The seriousness with which Wales is taking this issue is also evidenced by Community Pharmacy Wales (CPW) who worked with the PDA to circulate these documents to every community pharmacy in Wales in 2018.
Mr Day concluded: “Organisations in Wales have shown leadership on this issue by working with us and are proving what can be done. One assault on a pharmacist is one too many, and we sincerely hope to see others give the issue of safe workplaces greater priority.”
